Lecture & Lunch: “Tour to Chengdu & Xi'an - a Historical Journey through the Qin, Han & Three Kingdoms” with Dr. Joseph Ting (Conducted in Cantonese) at HKU

The HKU Museum Society is pleased to present a pre-trip lecture and lunch organized in conjunction with the upcoming tour to Chengdu & Xi’an – a Historical Journey through the Qin, Han & Three Kingdoms with Dr. Joseph Ting (Conducted in Cantonese) .  Members and guests are welcome to attend this event.

In this lecture, Dr. Ting will first give an overview of the various places to be visited in this tour, as well as its historical and cultural significance. He will highlight some significant key historical sites, ancient structures, and artifacts to be covered, including the bronze money trees 搖錢樹 in the Minjiang Museum, the Pingyang Fujun Que 平陽府君闕, an important stone gate of the Western Han Dynasty, Huangze Temple 皇澤寺 located in Guangyuan City, the hometown of Empress Wu Zetian, the tomb of Zhang Qian 張騫墓, pioneer of the Silk Road, the Baoji Bronze Ware Museum 宝雞青銅器博物館 and the Nestorian Stele 大秦景教流行中國碑 in the Forest of Steles Museum 碑林博物館 in Xi’an, and more.

Speaker – Dr. Joseph Ting Sun Pao

Dr. Joseph Ting Sun Pao graduated with a B.A. degree in 1974, MPhil in 1979 and PhD in 1989, all from The University of Hong Kong. He joined HK Museum of Art in 1979 as an Assistant Curator II, and retired in 2007 as the Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History. He is currently an Honorary Professor of the School of Chinese, HKU and an Adjunct Professor of the History Department of the Chinese University of HK. He is an Honorary Adviser of the HK Museum of Art and Museum of History; and also, a Senior Adviser of the Art Museum of CUHK. Dr Ting is an Honorary Fellow of The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Education University of Hong Kong, and an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
